1) Pre-Course Counselling

The purpose of pre-course counselling is to help answer public enquiries about TCMHC, its functional apparatus and academic policies.

The pre-course counselling provided by Operations Staff /Student Recruitment Agents with the opportunity to find out more about the prospects’ interests, aspirations, hopes and objectives. As such, they should utilize the opportunity to conduct a fact finding session and to provide the prospects with the information required for them to make an informed decision.

2) Academic Course Counselling

TCMHC’s Operations Staff will act as a liaison between students and academic staff on academic matters. As such, the following will be part of TCMHC’s responsibilities in providing a wholesome, one-stop service for academic counselling:

  • TCMHC will provide adequate training to all Operations Staff in the form of Staff Orientation slides with appropriate guidance from Operations Manager to ensure that they provide prospective students with adequate, relevant and comprehensive guidance;
  • Evaluation and reviewing of the pre-course counselling and advice services periodically for continual improvement on our standards of services.

3) Pastoral Counselling

TCMHC’s provides Professional Pastoral Counselling Services which may include providing emotional support for students to help them cope with mental stress relating to a new environment or course demands, and implementing programmes to create a culture and climate of care, trust and friendliness that encourage student attendance and involvement.

There are benefits from working in a therapeutic relationship with a professional counsellor that cannot be replicated through self-help. It can be a relief to tell someone about difficulties that a student has struggled with on their own. The student may have a longstanding concern, be encountering new difficulties, or simply have a sense that something is not right.

TCMHC’s Professional Counsellors can help to normalise student experience and place it in context, bring objectivity, critical distance, and experience of dealing with problems of all kinds. This often leads to seeing a problem in a new way, and feeling more able to get to grips with it.

The counselling process begins with a therapeutic consultation during student and counsellor can develop a clearer understanding of student problem and think together about how student might move forward. Sometimes this can be accomplished in a single session, but it may take two or three. This may be enough to enable student to use what he/she have learnt to get back on track or he/she may go on to further individual counselling, group counselling or issue-focused workshops.
